About the Department

Master of Commerce is a two-year post graduation course design forth students of commerce students to progress further in the field of accounting, taxation, business, finance and investment. After the scheme of liberalization and globalization of business over part two decades, the commerce stream has witnessed a major changes and paves the way for various new sub-fields for research and career. The programme is well received in the industry and for years had been serving the needs of managerial cadre. The course serves the needs of academics and prepares students for research and teaching.

Objectives

The aim of this Programme is to develop the theoretical and practical knowledge of finance and marketing and banking and insurance that will cater the contemporary needs of industry and academia by providing conceptual learning backed with critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities. The Programme will enable students:

 • To guide the commerce students to develop an ethically positive attitude toward value-based learning and motivate them to take up higher studies and research in the field of business and commerce.

• To acquaint with the emerging development in the field of finance, accounting banking and insurance sector, and shape their behaviour to adapt with such developments.

• To enable them to understand the national as well as international scenario in respect of various fields of business and apply the principles of business and management to provide the best possible solutions for real world business problems after assessing their economic, environmental, cultural and societal implications.

• To conduct business, accounting and research practices and develop an environment conducive to growth of future professionals, researches, entrepreneurs and academicians.

CAREER PROSPECTIVES:

Career prospects for M.Com graduates are diverse and varied, and they can find employment in many sectors. M.Com graduates can become accountants in public accounting firms, corporations, government agencies, or non-profit organizations. They may be involved in financial statement preparation, tax planning, auditing, or management accounting. M.Com graduates can work as financial analysts in banks, investment firms, or other financial institutions. They may be involved in analysing financial data, preparing reports, and making investment recommendations. M.Com graduates can start their own businesses and become entrepreneurs. They can use their knowledge of accounting, finance, and business management to develop and manage their own ventures. M.Com graduates can pursue an academic career and become lecturers or researchers in universities, colleges, or research institutions.

ELIGIBILITY:

Passing of Graduation Degree in Commerce / Management / Business Administration from UGC recognized university with atleast 50% marks. However, students with Hons Degree will get a weightage of 10% of marks obtained in Graduation while finalizing the merit. Other Government instructions regarding admission will be followed as such.

COURSE DURATION

The duration of M.Com (Master of Commerce) course is 2 years program.
