The B.Tech program in Automobile engineering deals with the study of various engines and their construction, electrical systems, alternate fuels, safety, economics and quality of an automobile. For a better learning experience, students are exposed to case studies and problem-based learning, brainstorming, written tests, computer simulation, group discussions, industrial training seminars and projects.

Automobile manufacturing industries such as TELCO, L & T, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra & Mahindra, Heldex India, Bajaj Auto and Gabrial employ automotive engineering graduates as Supplier Warranty Recovery Specialist, Underbody Engineer, Senior Production Engineer, Quality Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer and Driver Instrumentation Engineer.
Automotive engineer jobs need constant up gradation of skills to keep pace with technological advancements. Many of Automotive engineering graduates also join defence services of the country. Some even setup own business venture or take up traditional teaching profession.
Admission is carried out on the basis of JEE rank for Punjab Domiciles and for students belonging to other states through online counselling conducted by IKG Punjab Technical University, 66.6% seats form the State Quota while 33.3% seats in each discipline are reserved for Management Quota. Admissions to all seats are made on the basis of merit of JEE/10+2 marks.
